The CATV Maintenance Technician will perform routine and preventative maintenance on CATV feeder/distribution and trunk systems to ensure system performance meets company standards. This role will also involve troubleshooting, signal measurements, system balance, and repair tasks. The technician will be responsible for maintaining the cable system up to the headend, assisting with installations, performing system audits, and terminating unauthorized connections. As part of the team, the technician will also serve as an on-call technician for emergency service restoration.

Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine and preventative maintenance on CATV systems, including feeder/distribution and trunk systems, ensuring optimal system performance according to company policies and industry standards.

System Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve faults in the subscriber drop, feeder, distribution, and trunk systems, ensuring proper signal levels and picture quality.

Signal Egress/Ingestion: Detect and correct signal egress/ingress issues, documenting results and maintaining a daily log.

System Balancing & Sweeps: Participate in system balancing and assist in system sweep operations to maintain network integrity.

Emergency Service: Provide emergency restoration for signal outages in the feeder, distribution, and trunk systems, ensuring fast resolution and customer satisfaction.

Installation & Testing: Perform installations, complete signal tests, and report test point measurements to ensure system functionality.

On-Call Support: Serve as an on-call technician for after-hours support and restoration tasks.

Customer Communication: Effectively communicate with customers regarding reception problems and service issues, demonstrating a friendly and patient demeanor.

Supervision & Reporting: Report to the assigned supervisor, updating on the status of tasks, challenges, and progress regularly.

Safety Compliance: Follow established procedures for safe operation of equipment, including the use of a bucket truck and pole climbing equipment.

Preventative Maintenance: Complete assigned preventative maintenance tasks and help ensure the cable system is fully operational, including activating new plant installations and performing preliminary proofing.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of CATV experience with hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting.

Certifications: Certification in pole climbing and bucket truck operation.

Technical Expertise: Proficiency in using various technical equipment, including:

Signal level meter

Volt-ohm meter

Cable locator

Egress monitoring devices

AC clamp meter

Television test set

Spectrum analyzer

Basic time-domain reflectometer

Sweep gear

Customer Service: Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with customers, resolving issues promptly.

Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, applying technical expertise and judgment to identify and resolve problems effectively.

Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a team under minimal supervision.

Driving Requirements: A valid state driver’s license with an excellent driving record is mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional):

Prior experience with emergency restoration services for signal outages

Familiarity with local, state, and federal compliance regulations for CATV systems

Previous experience in system audits and unauthorized connection termination.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions

Ability to lift and carry equipment as required for installations and maintenance tasks

Ability to climb poles and use bucket trucks safely
